Ravel Therapies Massage Limassol – Our Taping Techniques

We use a range of tapes and taping techniques for various purposes at Ravel Therapies Massage Limassol. The main aims of taping are usually to help protect joints, to improve muscle function and to aid in healing. We incorporate taping techniques, as appropriate, in our remedial massage treatments.

We use a combination of fixomol and rigid tape when our aim is to provide support and restrict the range of movement of a joint. This is often the case with acute injuries. The rigid tape is strong, has very little elasticity in it, and provides a strong restriction of joint movement at the point where it is applied. The fixomol tape is used underneath the rigid tape, as it is gentler on the skin.

Other times the objective of taping is to provide assistance with correct joint positioning. This is done using an elastic tape called Kinesiology tape, which when applied at the correct angle and direction, will help encourage joint movement and positioning. This method also helps with re-training correct neuro-muscular function of muscles around joints.

Another reason we may use Kinesiology tape is to improve healing. We will often apply this after a massage therapy treatment, helping to lift the skin off the affected, underlying tissue, increasing blood supply and fluid transfer, thereby promoting healing.
