Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation
Orthopaedic conditions commonly stem from injuries or muscle imbalances due to poor posture, which in turn predisposes you to injury. Furthermore, injury often leads to neurological inhibition of certain muscles, which can in turn lead to muscle atrophy and further muscle imbalance! This makes the sports therapy and rehabilitation of muscle and neurological function a very important component of nearly every orthopaedic condition.
Sunil is a certified Master Rehab Trainer, having been trained by elite Sports Physiotherapists. The “Rehab Trainer” programme is designed to give allied health professionals the skills needed to help their clients back into training and normal activities. Additionally, Sunil’s many years of experience in learning and teaching a wide range of martial arts has given him a deep appreciation of the mechanics and limitations of the human body.
Sunil develops rehabilitation programmes uniquely for each client, based on their conditions and a thorough analysis of their movement patterns and deficits. The rehabilitation programme often commences with simple exercises to isolate and activate specific muscles with reduced function, whilst stretching overactive muscles.
In time, the client is progressed to “iso-integration” exercises, which are designed to train the inhibited muscles to fire during normal movements such as walking, pushing, pulling, etc. These exercises are continued until the client develops proper movement mechanics, thereby reducing the risk of re-injury. Eventually, when the body is rehabilitated, the client can resume their full range of sports and activities.
