Sports Massage Limassol – What is Sports Massage?

Sports massage is a collection of specialised remedial massage techniques designed to help you prevent sports injuries, warm up muscles up prior to an activity, and help the body recover quickly after an activity. Sports massage is designed not only for elite athletes, but for anyone undertaking any form of exercise, be it training for a marathon or even just taking a walk! Whatever form of sport or activity you may be into, we have your needs covered at Ravel Sports Massage Limassol.

Sports massage is often broken down into three distinct categories: pre-event, post-event and fine-tuning. Fine-tuning massage is provided between events and up to a day or two prior to a major event. The focus of these sports massage techniques is on achieving balance in the body, between left and right, and within various muscle groups. This helps restore maximum range of movement, reduce pain, and prevent sports injuries. A big focus of our sports massage work at our sports therapy and sports injury clinic is on testing and tweaking the firing of muscles, to help maximise performance output and endurance. For example, it is common to see people overuse their hamstring muscles rather than recruiting their glutes (buttock muscles). This can lead to cramps and fatigue of the hamstrings and even lead to sports injury.

Sports Massage at Ravel Therapies, Limassol

Our sports injury therapists use assessment techniques to identify muscle imbalances, and our exercise programmes help improve your muscle firing patterns. Where appropriate, we may supplement our sports massage and exercise therapy with the use of taping. We use a range of tapes including kinesiology tape, all of which are designed to assist the body in learning correct movement patterns or to increase blood flow in the affected area. Overall, our sports massage techniques leads to a “fine-tuned” body, improving your performance, reducing fatigue and reducing the risk of sports injuries.

Pre-event sports massage is typically of very short duration and consists of pumping actions that warm the muscles up, getting them primed for the event. Pre-event massages are usually best carried out immediately prior to the event and close to the sports venue. Similarly, post-event massages are ideally carried out within hours of the completion of the event. These techniques involve rhythmic shaking of muscles with the intention of relaxing them and draining blood from the extremities back to the core of the body. We provide post-event massages as part of a full treatment, when requested.
