What to expect at your consultation

Your Advanced Remedial Massage Consultation

You will be asked to fill out our client history form at your first consultation. You can either download (click here), complete and bring the form with you, or arrive 5 minutes prior to your consultation time to complete the form at the clinic. Your consultation begins with a detailed discussion of your case, where you will be asked a range of questions to investigate your symptoms or concerns.

If you have a specific issue, your practitioner may assess your range of movement in the affected joints and carry out special orthopaedic tests to establish the likely cause of your symptoms, and the structures involved. This may include an analysis of certain movement patterns, such as walking on the spot, squatting, or rowing. Any deficits noted will influence the treatment and help determine the most suitable rehabilitation exercises for you.

Additionally, your practitioner may carry out a visual assessment, which is usually done with the outer garments removed. It is therefore advisable to wear suitable underwear for your first treatment. Alternatively, tight fitting sportswear is suitable for this purpose.

Prior to the remedial massage commencing, you will be given time to undress in private and cover yourself on the table with the towels provided. Keeping your modesty protected, your practitioner will expose the areas requiring treatment as the session progresses. Some techniques require participation from the client, so be prepared to play an active role in your treatment! The pressure applied is always adjusted to suit each client, so be sure to give your practitioner feedback.

At the end of the treatment, if appropriate, your practitioner may provide instruction in certain rehabilitation exercises to commence the journey of re-training your neurological firing patterns.

To allow time to take the initial case history, carry out the assessments and massage treatment, and go through the exercise programme, when appropriate, the first consultation is 55 minutes long.

Follow up consultations are either 40 minutes or 55 minutes long, as required.

Your Rehabilitation Consultation

Based on the outcome of the assessment in your remedial massage treatment, Sunil will usually provide instruction in specific exercises to help speed up your recovery and help you maintain your improved condition. These are carried out fully clothed, usually at the end of the treatment. Where exercises involve the use of equipment such as exercise tubing, you will be provided with proper instruction to use them safely and effectively.

Your Kinesiology Session

Your first session will look at a detailed case history to include both physical and emotional conditions/states, any past surgeries or other traumas, pain management, attitudes and relationships, pressures and stresses in all areas of life, and steps to manifesting aspirations and goals. Home reinforcement techniques may be given to enhance or speed up the healing process.

With each kinesiology session, years of conditioning and patterns of neglect may be gently peeled away, to reveal the limiting beliefs we’ve held, and bring forth profound awareness which can be extremely rewarding and life-changing.

You are encouraged to take control and feel empowered, whilst unlocking the potential within and finding your true nature, in an inherent state of well-being and vitality.

I cannot begin to say how many remedial massage therapists and physiotherapists I have been to over the years all with varying amounts of very average treatments. Sunil is certainly not in this class, he knows his stuff extremely well and treats accordingly. He listens and works quite differently.... to other massage therapists and it is very effective, all without the nasty and excruciating pain I have usually experienced from other masseurs and physios! Sunil cares about his clients' problems and works hard to solve them, he is the best!!

I thoroughly recommend Sunil as a Practitioner. He is very knowledgeable, precise and caring therapist. I have been to many therapists (including Physios, Osteos, Acupuncturists and doctors) and I have rarely met someone who is so precise in what he does. He really wants to make a difference in ... the life of his patients. With attune listening skills and thorough checking, Sunil with his systematic checks will ensure that he finds out what is wrong and what can be improved with a variety of efficient techniques. He will ensure that your body gets back in function and is balanced, whether corrections need to be applied... Sunil can also give you exercises and  will monitor your progress. I have chronic back issues following an accident and Sunil has made a huge improvement in restoring my function and has allowed me to be able to practise my sport activities pain free as well as gain better life quality.  In a nutshell: three words: CHECK HIM OUT!

My main cause for going to see Stella was about my Rosacea and confidence and after two treatments I started seeing and feeling the benefits. My first session with Stella was extremely powerful and released an incredible amount of emotion that I didn’t even realise I had trapped. Stella is able... to communicate with you and your body in such a special way that is able to release any imprisoned emotion you may have.

As a competitive cyclist, strength and flexibility are an important aspect to my performance. I really like Sunil's holistic approach. Sunil has not only been fantastic in treating some tightness and burning i was feeling through my neck ... and shoulders, but he has provided me with exercises to re-balance the muscles through my upper torso.  I appreciate Sunil's desire to understand the root cause of the problem and work on long term sustainable solutions.

I was referred to Sunil by a neighbour who conducts Yoga classes in the same holistic health centre as Sunil. I am 67 and have a 43 degree lateral scoliosis. I had been to the GP and two spinal surgeons. Their solution was to fuse my spine from my pelvis to just beneath my shoulder blades.... with two rods and each vertebra being turned and wired to the rods. I was told that it was inevitable, but I could choose the time. I was also told that I would not be able to bend, put on shoes, reach upwards and many other simple activities which we all take for granted. There was the additional statement that quite possibly I would not be able to live independently. I lived with that for 20 months, feeling too afraid to do anything much in case the spasm which began my round with the doctors might recur. That is how I presented to Sunil. Firstly, Sunil listened. He wanted to know as much as possible about the spinal situation, how it might have developed and, as well as that, details about me which he considered might be impacting on the situation. I have seen him about eight times, now. His remedial massage treatment is very focussed but as “gentle” as it can be. As a result, I can stand straighter for longer. I have the confidence to be able to walk a few hundred metres without fear that I could not get back home and, as Sunil agrees, my scoliosis may never be fully corrected. It could, however, (and already has been) improved by correcting the muscle imbalances and strengthening the weak surrounding muscular support tissue and be revitalised through his massage and my exercising at home. I would recommend that anyone experiencing similar symptoms to mine consult Sunil. The result for me has been a complete change in my quality of life and confidence in the future.

I've been seeing Sunil for 5 months after 20+ years of neck pain, headaches and migraines. I've tried everything including acupuncture and physiotherapy. Sunil is super passionate and knowledgeable about what he does - and after diagnosing the 'cause' of my headaches, not necessarily the symptoms... - I am happy to say I can't remember the last time I had a headache!! Lotus Health is a lovely little Centre and I would highly recommend Ravel Therapies and Sunil to anyone out there looking at remedial massage.

Sunil has been a star! I have a chronic discomfort which flares up at times of stress and uncertainty, and particularly when I am traveling a lot, and visited Sunil during the couple of months I stayed in Sydney. He is a great listener, and listens to both your symptoms and the feedback your body gives him, and applies his extensive knowledge of the musculoskeletal structure to provide a comprehensive approach to both treatment and self care and maintenance to improve mobility and reduce pain. My body would have struggled to get through the last few months without his support, and I am incredibly grateful for the exercises and techniques I can now use to alleviate discomfort and aftermath of the long haul flights home. Thank you!

I've been seeing Sunil in relation to spinal scoliosis that has chronically bothered me for about 15 years now, and am already noticing improvements. He has a very good understanding of the mechanics of the body and a keen interest in continuing development of his skills. And one of the most important factors for me is that he is a nice guy and easy to get along with. I've been to physios, doctors, rheumatologists, massage therapists, acupuncturists and more over the years but this is the first time I've felt like I might actually be able overcome my chronic pain.

Over the years I have been to many remedial masseurs, osteopaths, chiropractors and physiotherapists, but never have I encountered a level of service, care, intelligence and empathy like that delivered by Sunil at Ravel Therapies. From the very first visit he engaged with my issues and was proactive trying to analyse and solve them. Finally I felt there was someone on my side, and together we could work to resolve the problem. I would have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone.

Sunil is a champion! I went in with some lower back pains and was merely expecting a good remedial massage to help rub out all of my tense areas but was pleased to get a lot more than just that. He gave me great advice on what was causing my issues and what to and what not to do in my daily activities to help my body recover. I'm sad to say that today will be my last session with him for a little while, though i will go away with great confidence that from his treatment and continued use of the exercise program which he has suggested, that in no time at all i will be 100%!
