Tennis Elbow – Orthopaedic Massage Limassol, Cyprus

Tennis elbow is a form of tendinosis often leading to tendonitis (inflammation of the tendons) in the lateral forearm at the elbow joint. You do not need to play tennis to have tennis elbow! Anyone carrying out repetitive gripping tasks could get tennis elbow. If you have persistent lateral elbow pain, then it is worth getting it checked out by our orthopaedic massage and musculoskeletal therapist at Ravel Therapies Massage Limassol in Cyprus.

People most susceptible to tennis elbow include racket ball players (such as tennis), carpenters, workers, and even people working a lot in the household. The muscles typically involved are the extensor carpi muscles, which extend from the elbow joint into the wrist joint.

The pain is typically less after rest, and gets worse as the day wears on, and on carrying out of tasks which aggravate the condition.

Tennis Elbow treatment – Orthopaedic Massage Limassol, Cyprus

Our Ravel Therapies massage Limassol therapist carries out simple tests to help determine if you are likely suffering from tennis elbow. These tests include simple range of movement tests, including those requiring the client to provide resistance against specific wrist and elbow movements. These are called resisted range of movement tests, and help the practitioner isolate the muscles and tendons involved.

As tennis elbow is a form of repetitive strain injury, caused by chronic overuse, the treatment will necessarily involve a review and modification of activities which are causing the condition. This may mean finding another way to carry out the same tasks, or carrying out different tasks altogether.

The actual treatment itself involves muscle energy techniques and gentle massage in acute stages, and deep tissue massage in chronic stages, to help break down fibrousness which has formed within the tendons, and muscle attachments.

The client will also be given stretching and strengthening exercises which need to be carried out at the specific intervals given. The affected muscles and tendons must be strengthened, but given time to recover between exercise sessions to prevent aggravating the condition further.
