Ravel Massage Limassol, Cyprus – What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
If you suspect you have carpal tunnel syndrome, book in with our advanced remedial massage and musculoskeletal therapist for an assessment at Ravel Therapies Massage Limassol.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is caused by the compression of a nerve called the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel in the wrist. CTS usually manifests as pain and tingling in the fingers, especially the thumb, index and middle fingers. The exact underlying cause of CTS is not clear, but the symptoms come about from the reduction of space in the carpal tunnel, which is formed by bones, tendon sheaths and ligaments. A reduction of this space can be caused by inflammation and enlargement of the sheaths around the tendons passing through this area. It can also be formed by shortening and tightening of the retinaculum and transverse carpal ligament, which may come about from highly repetitive manual activities such as certain kinds of office work (typing) and manual tasks.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Treatment at Ravel Massage Limassol
At our Ravel Massage Limassol clinic, the intention of our remedial therapy is to lengthen shortened tissues around the carpal tunnel, and to break down adhesions that would have formed between the tendons and the surrounding ligaments and fascia.
Our treatment is very specific and we use techniques such as deep cross fibre frictions, myofascial release massage, trigger point therapy and muscle energy techniques to soften and lengthen the affected structures. We also gently mobilise the carpal bones in the wrist, to help realign the bones into their normal positions. This, in turn, helps normalise the soft tissue position and function and increase the space within the carpal tunnel, reducing pressure on the tendons and nerves.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Exercises at Ravel Massage Balgowlah
Our remedial massage Limassol therapist will provide you with specific exercises designed to help you manage your carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms. These exercises include stretching of the flexion muscles to reduce the tension in the tendons, and mobilisation exercises to help hydrate and nourish the soft tissue.
Individuals who carry out their exercise diligently in addition to receiving regular treatment are most likely to find their condition improve. Once the cycle of pain and inflammation is broken, the treatment frequency can be reduced, and the client can usually manage their condition themselves, and prevent flare-ups by following simple advice.
